Re-loadind Data for Win 540 Powder

m*adowmuffin3 said: I have some Winchester 540 Powder and want to use it up by loading it for trap shooting. These are the components I will be using: Win AA 2 3/4 inch hulls, Fed. 209A primer WAA12L Wads 1 oz of 7.5 shot I cannot locate anywhere the amount of Win 540 powder to use with the above to achieve a muzzle velocity of 1150 to 1250 FPS. Can anyone point me to a website or provide me with the number of grains of the 540 to use to achieve the above? Thx in advance

F*ssteel said: The reason you can't find any data is because that powder was designed for use with heavy field and magnum shotgun shells. All for 1 1/4 oz 1 3/8oz loads. IIRC its very simular to HS6. FS

R*Pete said: What they said, too slow. Winchester 14th Edition list a 1 1/8oz load screaming at 1300fps. All of the other books that I have, list it for 1 1/4oz + loads. Get a faster powder and use exactly the components listed for that load. Do not substitute wads or primers.

So just to feedback to you what I understand from your comments is that I should forget about using it for trap shooting and use it to load for ducks, geese etc.

You will need diffrent wads as well for the heavier payloads like a WAA12114, or a WAA12R

m*adowmuffin3 said: yes of course i can't use it for ducks. Last time I went duck hunting lead shot was still legal. not any more. thx for reminding me although I doubt I will be doing any duck hunting. So its just upland game.
