S*lverback said: Retumbo is an excellent powder for the 338 RUM, it was developed for the large magnums. The only problem is you don't get many rounds to the pound but considering what you are shooting it's all part of the game. RETUMBO® This magnum powder was designed expressly for the really large overbored cartridges such as the 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum, 300 Remington Ultra Magnum, 30-378 Weatherby Magnum, etc. RETUMBO adds 40-100 fps more velocity to these cartridges when compared to other normal magnum powders. In addition, it is an Extreme Powder, making it perfect for big game hunting under all types of conditions. Available in 1 lb. & 8 lb. containers.

The load is so accurate it is scary. 3150 fps out of my 26" barrel. No pressure signs. Retumbo is more for 250 grainers. H1000 is magic for the 225 grainers. I have used this load on moose, elk, mule deer, whitetails and so on. Never have recovered one. Full penetration.

Hmmmm...according to the Hodgdon reloading site with 225 gr bullets the Maximum load of Retumbo is only 3 FPS slower than a maximum load of H1000 but with heavier bullets Retumbo is better so why not buy the one powder with the most overall benefits.
